Ernest Green Jr., a longtime administrator and coach with Fort Walton Beach High School, has passed away. Green retired after 35 years as an educator and administrator with Fort Walton Beach High School. He passed away Feb. 15, 2020.

It’s been nearly five years since Coach Ernie Green turned off his office light for the last time and locked the door.

But he will always be a part of Fort Walton Beach High School, where he spent more than 30 years as a teacher, coach and administrator.

Green, who died at the age of 71, left his mark on the thousands of students he counseled and taught, as well as his coworkers, who adored him.

Mr. Ervin Leroy Moore (Class of 1959) age 80 of Laurel Hill, Florida passed away with Family by his side Wednesday March 25, 2020 in Pensacola, Florida. He was born in Milligan , Florida too Lonnie J. Moore, Sr and Nova V. (McLaughlin) Moore. Mr. Moore served his Country in the U.S. Army with honor from November 1960 to November 1962. He is survived by his wife Christine his children and a host of other close relatives and friends. age 80 of Laurel Hill, Florida passed away with Family by his side Wednesday March 25, 2020 in Pensacola, Florida. James L. Hill Sr., Ed.D., Col. USAR, peacefully transitioned from mortality to immortality and joined that great cloud of witnesses in heaven’s glory on Jan. 8, 2013. Dr. James Hill was a longtime resident of Okaloosa County and retired as the Principal of Florosa Elementary School in 1994. He also retired as a Colonel in the Active United States Army Reserve in 1981.

Mrs. Laura Bell Moore age 80 (Class of 1960), passed away peacefully with Family by her side Sunday August 25, 2019 at her residence. She is a life long native of Okaloosa County. Ms. Laura B. Moore worked as a nurse in various areas/locations throughout Okaloosa County. She is survived by her children: Chico Moore, Cheril M. Harris-Barnes, Tricia Greene and Demetrius Harris; grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of other close relatives and friends.

Mr. Robert Washington age 100, passed away in the early morning hours Wednesday November 06, 2019 at his residence. Mr. Washington was a distinguished Airman who served his country for over 30 years with the U.S. Air Force receiving numerous accolades. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and a host of other close relatives and friends. He was the loving father of Barbara Washington (Class of 1960).

Mr. Patrick D. Baggett age 51 of Tallahassee, Fl, (formerly of Crestview, Fl) passed away May 5, 2018 in Texas. He is survived by his parents: Rev. Dwight (Class of 1958) & Mrs. Novella Baggett (Class of 1960)and sister: Lori Baggett, aunts, uncles and other close relatives and friends. Final arrangements were entrusted to McKinnie Funeral Home.

James Means, Jr. (Class of 1958) passed away on September 16, 2019 at the age of 79.  He was a senior member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and an active member of the Crestview Florida community.  He played on the Carver-Hill Panthers football team as guard. 

 

Mr. Carl Westbrooks age 83 of Crestview, Florida passed away peacefully with Family by his side Monday March 26, 2018 at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. He was born in Crestview, Florida to Richard and Lilia (McDonald) Westbrook. He had eight siblings: Robert, John, I. L., Elisha (AJ), James, Sara, Edith, and Louise which preceded him in death. He graduated from Carver Hill School in 1955. Went to the U. S. Navy from 1955-1957 and served on the Far East 7th Fleet. He attended FAMU Barber School in 1958. In 1959 he worked as a barber at the James Williamson Barber Shop. He later opened his own shop in his home. He served as on-call part-time City of Crestview Police Officer from 1960-1964. He became a permanent part-time Police Officer from the efforts of the Negro Civic Club before his fulltime employment with Fairchild Industries 1964 – 1992. His other employment included Custodian at Crestview High School and Executive Maintenance Technician at the Crestview Housing Authority. In 1964 he married Mary Baggett and from that union two children were born, Carl, II and LaTrece Sophia Westbrook. In 1989 he married his current wife Gwendolyn Patricia Harrison Westbrook and became a stepfather to Krystal and Mileya Harrison. Carl gave his life to Christ at an early age and became a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

Hon. Clarence S.Bennett, AGE: 79 (Class of 1955) • Wilmington Departed this life July 8, 2016. Beloved husband of Patricia “Pat” for 49 years; father of Courtney & Christopher (Melissa); son of the late Grant Bennett, Grace & Eugene Carr; son-in-law of Lozelle DeLuz, PhD. and the late Anthony DeLuz. Retiring after 32 years of service as a Compliance Analyst, Federal Office of Personnel Management, Washington, DC, he and the family relocated to Wilmington. In 1994, he was appointed in the Justice of the Peace Courts, New Castle County and remained a judge until health challenges caused him to retire in his second term. Clarence enjoyed being of service to his community.  He was also a member Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Leslie Lamont Harris age 76  (Class of 1957) of Huntsville passed away on April 29, 2015. Leslie is survived by his daughter; Brittani Harris, son Leslie Harris II, grandson: Warren Stafford, brother: Raymond and his wife Viola Harris, Nathanel Harris, sisters: Toni Harris Feagin, Jamie and her husband Rev. Ronald Franklin, Victoria Reynolds, Gwendolyn Watts, Jeanette Cubbage, and several nieces and nephews.
