Education History
One of the major recognized publications on the History of the Okaloosa County School System was prepared by Mrs. Nancy M. Kenaston. The publication is one of the main sources for information on the struggle to educate Afro American children in the Okaloosa County Public Schools. Mrs. Kenaston’s book is entitled, “From Cabin to Campus”.
There are many living Afro American teachers and students still living who have personal knowledge of both the pre-integration and post-integration experience of working in or attending the Okaloosa County Public Schools. Today, the Okaloosa County Public Schools is one of the highly rated school districts in the state of Florida.
