Chester Pruitt
Officer Chester Pruitt (1917-1968 Officer Chester Pruitt (1917- 1968) was the 1st African American police officer in Ft. Walton Beach. He joined police force in 1948 and served throughoutthe 1950-60s. A Great Floridian Plaque in his honor has been erected at the Chester Pruitt Neighborhood Center. 15 Carson Dr. in Ft. Walton Beach.

Mrs. Gloria Jean Tippens launched Okaloosa County’s Head Start program in 1971. The program eventually included locations in Shalimar, Fort Walton Beach, Crestview and Destin. She retired as director in 1997 after 26 years as the program’s director.

For exceptional meritorious service as the 160th Signal Brigade Deputy Commander, while serving in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn, and The Transition to the Office of Security Cooperation-Iraq. His commitment to excellence directly contributed to the successful accomplishment of the Brigade’s Combat Mission. Lieutenant Colonel Roberson’s genuine concern for solders and relentless pursuit of excellence is second to none and reflects great credit upon himself, The 160th Signal Brigade, The 335th Signal Command (Theater)(Provisional) and the United States Army.

Rachel Kent ( Grand Daughter of John R. Kent, Class of 1960), who in November signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Saint Louis University and play for
the Billikens, scored a game-high 19 points to lead Maine West H.S. to a 58-46 win over Mother McAuley in the
Illinois Class 4A state championship game Saturday night. In addition to capturing the state crown, Maine West
completed a 35-0 season.
Kent added five rebounds, two steals and an assist in the title contest and was selected Player of the Game. The
5-foot-11 forward was named first-team All-State by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and by the
Associated Press, finishing the season with averages of 14.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

- On SLU’s all-time single-season list, second in 3FG percentage (.431) and third in 3FG (78).
- First in 3FG percentage on Saint Louis freshman charts.
- Ranked fifth among freshmen in the NCAA in 3-point field goals and 19th overall in 3FG percentage.
- Ranks in the Atlantic 10 — second in 3-point field goals per game (2.4) and 3FG percentage; eighth in minutes (34.7 mpg); 19th in scoring (11.4 ppg); 23rd in blocks (0.6 bpg).
- Ranks on SLU — first in 3FG; second in minutes, assists (1.7 apg) and scoring; third in steals (0.7 spg); fourth in rebounds (4.2 rpg) and blocks.
- Collected a career-high 22 points and eight field goals, including 6-for-9 from deep, in the quarterfinals win over UMass.
- Connected on six 3-point field goals on her way to a game-high 19 points at George Washington.
- Posted eight contests with at least four 3-pointers.
- Led SLU eight times in scoring, five times in assists, four times in steals and once in rebounds.
- Recorded 18 double-digit scoring efforts.

A four-time Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-State choice, making the first team as a senior, second team as a junior, third team as a sophomore and fourth team as a freshman … collected Daily Herald All-Area, All-Conference and Maine West Most Valuable Player plaudits all four seasons … finished with 1,672 career points to rank second on the school’s all-time list … finished fifth in school history in career steals … shot 45.6 percent from the field and grabbed 618 rebounds during her career … named Daily Herald Player of the Year, Central Suburban League Player of the Year and USA Today All-State as a senior, when she averaged 14.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.4 steals … helped lead Maine West to a 35-0 record and the Illinois Class 4A state title in her senior campaign, and to third place in the state as a junior … selected the school’s Female Athlete of the Year and received the Coach Derril Kipp Scholarship … team captain … participated in the USA Basketball Olympic Trials and was named a U.S. Junior Nationals All-Star … also competed for the Midwest Elite AAU team … graduated in the top five percent of her class … was awarded the Kiwanis, PLT and Scott Wolf scholarships … member of National Honor Society, National English Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society … received the Seal of Biliteracy-Spanish.
Hon. Clarence S.Bennett, AGE: 79 (Class of 1955) • Wilmington Retiring after 32 years of service as a Compliance Analyst, Federal Office of Personnel Management, Washington, DC, he and the family relocated to Wilmington. In 1994, he was appointed in the Justice of the Peace Courts, New Castle County and remained a judge until health challenges caused him to retire in his second term. Clarence enjoyed being of service to his community. He was also a member Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
